History

2 000 Years of trade

Roman relics found within the “Domaine La Yole” estate provide the earliest evidence of both wine production and seafaring activities on this area of land, dating back to the birth of Christ.

The Domain’s name was born from sea-faring activity (a Yole is a small boat) and the vineyard labour : Domaine La Yole.

A Trading Place at Napoleon’s Crossroads

Domaine La Yole's history started in 1771 when the Domaine La Yole's wine was known all over the region.

The French land registry show that the vineyard’s wine cellars were at the crossroads of the major Napoleonic roads, surrounded by pine trees..

It was a meeting and shopping place where people used to drink wine : Domaine La Yole’s wine.

A Pioneer Mediterranean Vineyard

In the 1950s, an agricultural engineer, Mr. Jean Gassier, fall in love with the estate and become the catalyst for an impressive transformation.
He modernised the vineyard itself, along with the wine cellars; he developed the plantations, monitoring and regulating the growth
of the vines.
Taught the traditional methods handed down by his father, Pierre Gassier (fifth generation wine grower) took over the running of the family business in 1999.
He has continued to develop the estate and has modernised it by further creating:

  • Modular vinification store, settling, skin-maceration and chilled pre-fermenting maceration rooms.
  • Air-conditioned oak winery
  • Bottling and labelling wine
